Dutch chef Syrco Bakker is making his UAE debut by taking over Farmhouse at The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah Al Wadi Desert. The chef has spent 13 years in fine-dining restaurants across the Netherlands, making a name for himself as head chef of Sergio Herman’s Pure C, which holds two Michelin stars.

The latest accolade won by Dutch-Indonesian chef Syrco Bakker is a testament to his world-class culinary expertise, adding to the list of Syrco BASÈ’s achievements this year.

Syrco BASÈ, the pioneering culinary hub in Ubud helmed by two Michelin-starred chef, Syrco Bakker, is proud to announce that Chef Syrco was awarded Two Knives at this year’s prestigious The Best Chef Awards, recognizing him as a leader in “world-class expertise.”

The UAE has no shortage of chefs with Michelin-star pedigree, from Massimo Botturato Antonio Guida, as well as home-grown restaurants lauded by the Michelin Guide, from 99 Sushi and Hakkasan to Ossiano and Tresind Studio.

Syrco BASÈ held a night of innovative cocktails as the bar had a unique collaboration with Singapore’s famed Native Bar. Syrco BASÈ Ubud, a one-of-a-kind dining destination in Ubud, Bali, just had a one-night-only collaboration with Native, Singapore’s renowned sustainable bar. This unique collaboration invited guests to indulge in Native’s innovative creations, crafted with a passion for sustainability using local ingredients.

Hats off to The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah in Al Wadi Desert. While the Northern Emirates have not traditionally been on the radar of international chefs, Farmhouse is a farm-to-table menu inspired by forward-thinking Dutch chef Syrco Bakker, who has very much found a home in the desert.

We think this is the best fine dining experience in Ubud. Syrco BASÈ Ubud was opened in early 2024 by a chef who was earlier awarded 2 Michelin stars leading a restaurant in The Netherlands. Unfortunately Michelin does not rate restaurants in Indonesia, so you'll have to trust us that the experience is at the highest level you can find in Bali!

Two Michelin-starred Chef Syrco Bakker from Syrco BASÈ Ubud in Bali will be hosting a kitchen takeover at 1880, while Japan's Chef Keiko Kuwakino from Satoyama Jujo will be presenting her artistry at PO in The Warehouse Hotel, showcasing her unique approach to food inspired by Ayurvedic philosophy.

Netherland native Syrco Bakkar has Indonesian grandparents, so when the call came to come to Bali to open a restaurant it felt like a natural step. Syrco Base, the two-Michelin starred chef’s exceptional new modern Indonesian restaurant. Syrco BASÈ Ubud, a contemporary three-building complex with a central kitchen garden, it combines a long dining room and upstairs lounge, a chef’s table venue, walk-in bar (for more casual dining) and a boutique showcasing product lines (steak knives, ceramics et al) made by local artisans. The menu is firmly special occasion stuff with a choice of three seven-course degustation menus themed as ‘plant-based’, ‘heritage’ and ‘pure local’. Whichever one you choose, you’re in for an Indonesian-Balinese treat with a little Netherlands-Michelin star thrown in.
